Preserved landscape, cultural richness, exceptional fauna and flora, friendly population... a trip to Madagascar leaves no one indifferent during the Africa stays. Located in the northern part of the west coast of the country, the charming and carefree city of Mahajanga is not only popular with the different populations present on the Big Island, but also with tourists from all over the world. City of flowers for the Arabs, city that heals for the natives, it has everything to deserve these virtues. Travelers who stay in this region will be captivated by the beauty of its beaches, the colors of the landscape, its exceptional sunshine and the warm welcome of the inhabitants. It should be noted that the latter come from a pre-Sakalava interbreeding, Arabs and Africans.
Mahajanga is home to several surprising sites that will delight nature lovers. The Ankarafantsika Natural Park is, for example, a haven for lemurs and endemic birds. Apart from that, the tsingy of Namoroka, the caves of Anjohibe and Belobaka, the red circus and the sacred lake of Mangatsa reserve magnificent landscapes. The city of Mahajanga is easily discovered on foot. At the port, tourists will have the opportunity to see traditional dhows that deliver goods, such as fruits, vegetables and handicrafts. This place turns out to be full of colors and smells. When passing through the city, a visit to the 800-year-old baobab tree, located at the entrance to the “seaside”, is also a must. Mahajanga is less hot at night. The inhabitants therefore take advantage of this moment to go out with family or friends, and enjoy delicious skewers of meat and beef offal accompanied by mango achard.
