TOURISM SECTOR: THE SUSTAINABLE PRESERVATION OF OUR LIFE AND WORK SUPPORT IS VITAL FOR US, FOR OUR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND OUR IDENTITY

Biodiversity is the major attraction of international tourism in Madagascar. And more and more Malagasy are beginning to discover the wealth of their own island.

Madagascar has 123 protected areas, including 101 terrestrial and 22 marine, with 7,612,346 Ha of total area covering terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecosystems.

About 68% of foreign tourists come to Madagascar to see the endemic and exceptional flora and fauna of at least one protected area in Madagascar. Tourism contributes 13% of GDP.

Nearly 80% of Madagascar's fauna and flora are endemic, including 100% of lemur species – 92% of reptiles – 99% of amphibians – 61% of birds – 6 species of baobabs out of the 8 listed in the world

The preservation of terrestrial and marine protected areas have real community and cultural potential

BUT … 30,000 ha of forests are lost each year, and with them the natural resources of the island and its tenants are lost. 2,272 species ‌‌are‌‌on ‌‌‌the‌Red Endangered‌‌list, including 30% of lemurs.

SO… For the Tourism Sector, it is high time to make its contribution to the preservation and support for the development of communities. The entire value chain must implement actions to maintain our Natural Capital, implement solutions for the benefit of communities by strengthening the capacity of these communities in production, make income-generating activities viable, develop partnerships with the private sector, and raise awareness / train employees in eco-friendly gestures and respect…

The road is still long, but little by little, we are starting to synthesize our projects to have more tangible and informative results.
