20 days / 19 nights – Adventure, nature and great landscapes
This great journey takes you to discover the most spectacular landscapes of Madagascar. Between the descent of the Tsiribihina River, the extraordinary formations of the Tsingy de Bemaraha, the wild lagoons of the southwest and the large national parks of the south, this route offers a complete immersion in the natural and cultural diversity of the island.
Departure towards the Central Highlands via the famous RN7. Crossing landscapes of rice fields, red hills and traditional villages typical of the region. Arrival in Antsirabe, a spa town renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and its zebu horn and miniature craft workshops.
Road west towards Miandrivazo. The landscapes gradually change to give way to drier vegetation and the wide open spaces of western Madagascar. Arrival at the end of the day and preparation for the adventure of going down the river.
Descent of the Tsiribihina River Board a traditional barge to begin the descent of the Tsiribihina River. Peaceful navigation between ocher cliffs, isolated villages and wild landscapes. Observation of birds and local life along the river. Night in bivouac on the banks.
Continuation of the descent at the leisurely pace of the river. Discovery of natural waterfalls and observation of lemurs in the riverine forests. Moments of swimming and relaxation in an exceptional natural environment. Bivouac in the countryside under the stars.
Last landscapes of the Tsiribihina valley before arriving in Belo sur Tsiribihina. Meeting with the local population and lunch. Continuation towards Bekopaka through the western slopes. Crossing the Manambolo river by ferry and discovering the wild landscapes of the Menabe region. Arrival at Bekopaka, gateway to the Tsingy de Bemaraha national park.
First day of discovery of the Tsingy. Boarding a traditional canoe and discovery of the Manambolo canyons and its Vazimba cultural relics. In the afternoon, walk to discover small karsts, a mix of corridors, guts and somewhat technical passages. Exit at the end of the day and rest.
Day of exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Discovery of the Great Tsingy, impressive limestone formations sculpted by erosion. Hike on suspended footbridges and observe lemurs and endemic birds. A somewhat technical route but very doable. Return at the end of the day and rest.
Return to Morondava via the tracks of western Madagascar. At the end of the day, stop at the famous Baobabs Alley to admire one of the most beautiful sunsets in Madagascar.
South West Coast
Road to Manja through the savannah landscapes and semi-arid areas of the southwest. Discovery of traditional villages and rural life in this still preserved region.
Continuation to Andavadoaka, a Vezo fishing village located on the edge of an immense turquoise lagoon. First discovery of this wild and authentic coastline of southwest Madagascar.
Coastal road towards Ambatomilo along magnificent seascapes. Discovery of an exceptional lagoon with turquoise waters and still very preserved white sand beaches.
Continuation of the journey to Salary, one of the most beautiful bays in the southwest of Madagascar. Installation and moment of relaxation facing one of the most beautiful lagoons in the region.
Road to Ifaty near Toliara. Discovery of the dry forest of the southwest known for its baobabs and endemic plants. Possibility of snorkeling on the coral reefs.
Southern Parks Route towards the Isalo massif through the desert landscapes of southern Madagascar. Arrival in this emblematic park with spectacular rock formations.
Day of hiking in the canyons of Isalo. Discovery of the natural swimming pools, sculpted cliffs and grandiose landscapes of the massif.
Road to the Tsaranoro valley, dominated by immense granite cliffs. Discovery of the Betsileo villages and the spectacular landscapes of the region.
Hike in the Tsaranoro valley, dominated by the Andringitra massif on its north side. It is one of the most beautiful hiking regions in Madagascar. Walk in a spectacular mountain environment and observe local wildlife.
Road to Ambalavao, a town known for its traditional crafts. Visit to the Anjà community reserve, famous for its colonies of ring-tailed lemurs. Discovery of the large open-air market of Ambalavao and occasionally, its zebu market. Continuation towards Ranomafana through the green landscapes of the East.
Discovery of the national park famous for its tropical forest and its great biodiversity. Continuation of the road towards the north and overnight in Ambositra, the craft capital of the island.
Return to the Central Highlands crossing rice fields and traditional villages. Arrival in Antananarivo at the end of the day and end of this great journey through Madagascar.
