In all of the world's traditions, there are aspects that may clash with today's modern culture. Among these rites and cultures are traditional sports. In this register, cockfighting could take first place.
Arriving in Madagascar almost 800 years ago with migrants from Asia, this culture continues to this day. Every weekend and public holiday, in almost every district of the city of thousands, you will find crowds of men and children of all ages and all this in an atmosphere of celebration and joy.
If at first, cockfighting was simply used to entertain and pass the time, it did not take long for the notion of winning to appear. Currently, these fights only take place if a bet is made or if we want to know the potential of a fighter.
If in the current collective mentality, cockfighting is considered barbaric and bloody, from the point of view of the cockmasters, because that is what they are called, this sport is like boxing where we train her foal with attention and fervor.
Some of them can spend fortunes training these feathered fighters and it is completely logical to be reimbursed during tournaments and championships of all kinds because this sport is completely legalized in Madagascar. Bets can reach almost 3000 euros where the minimum income is around 25 euros.
In any case, this sport is among the most appreciated by the Malagasy people of the highlands. Not long ago, an international championship was organized by Madagascar where several countries participated.
